Apart from notebooks and other computing peripherals, Acer is also building a series of gaming desktop systems that go by the name of Predator and one of the most powerful models from the series, the G5910, was just launched in Europe.

The Acer desktop is available in other parts of the world from early April, so its hardware is a bit updated by now.

I am referring of course to the Nvidia graphics cards that are used for the G5910 as Acer is offering GeForce 400-series GPUs, which were all pretty much replaced by the improved GeForce 500-series.

On the AMD graphics card front, things are looking a lot better as the system can be equipped with still current Radeon HD 6800 series graphics cards.

The rest of the system can be setup to include Intel's second-generation Core processors, also known as Sandy Bridge, which are paired together with an H67 Express motherboard and as much as 16GB of system memory.

Acer provides various Core i5 and Core i7 CPU options in the G5910, including the multiplier unlocked K series processors, although I doubt that anyone will choose to install such a chip into a motherboard that doesn't support multiplier adjustments.

Moving further down in the specifications list, we get to see that the G5910 has enough room to support four hard drives (up to 2TB in capacity) or SSD units, two of these available through a pair of easy-swap hard disc bays placed under a front cover.

In addition, Acer's gaming rig also packs a multi-format card reader, a DVD or Blu-ray drive, Gigabit Ethernet, a couple of USB 2.0 ports, and an HDMI output.

As you can see, USB 3.0 is not supported, even if most Sandy Bridge motherboard support this technology.

The Acer Predator G5910 series will be available mid-July with RRP's from £599 including VAT.
