Acer continues to struggle in the notebook business throughout October

Acer is going through a dark phase. The company announced that CEO J.T. Wang resigned from his position and important jobs cuts are scheduled for the future.

Now, sources inside notebook supply chain makers cited by DigiTimes claim that the company is expected to ship 4-5 million units in the Q4 of the year. For the month of October, the PC manufacturer managed to sell only 1.4 million notebook units, which translates into a 10% per month decline.

Interesting enough, the fall is attributed by labor shortages in China production facilities based in Shanghai, Kunshan, Chongqing and Chengdu, which have been having problems since September. Weak demand coming from the retail channel also had some effect, the sources believe.

At the other end of the spectrum, we find Asus, a company that managed to achieve a 30% growth compared to the month before. Its success is mainly attributed to the launch of the Transformer Book T100 model and other non-touchscreen notebooks.
