After announcing the TravelMate 8481 business notebook at the end of last week, Acer has introduced yet another laptop in the UK, this time a multimedia-oriented model that goes by the name of the Aspire AS5755.

The notebook is built around an LED backlit 15.6-inch CineCrystal display with a rather low native resolution of 1366x768 and is powered by Intel's second-generation Core processors.

Users have the option of choosing between various Core i3, Core i5 and Core i7 parts, going all the way up to the powerful i7-2820QM.

This fast Intel processor includes four processing cores clocked at 2.3GHz (3.4GHz maximum Turbo), can process up to eight threads simultaneously, packs 8MB of Level 3 cache memory and also sports an Intel HD 3000 integrated GPU.

In Acer's notebook, this is seconded by an Nvidia GeForce GT 540M discrete graphics card with 2GB of video buffer and support for Nvidia's Optimus graphics switching technology.

In addition, the Aspire AS5755 can also be configured to feature up to 8GB of system memory, a 2.5-inch hard drive with a maximum capacity of 1TB, and an optional Blu-ray drive that replaces the standard DVD burner.

Connectivity options include 802.11 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1+EDR, a USB 3.0 port, an HDMI video output, as well as support for Intel's WiDi wireless video streaming technology.

The audio system sports Dolby Advanced Audio v2 certification and users will also find a 1.3MP webcam and a multi-format memory cards reader on the specs list. Including the 6-cell battery, that is standard for the Aspire AS5755, the notebook weights approximately 2.6Kg.

Acer's Aspire AS5755 laptop is available right now in the UK in brown, red, black and blue, with prices starting at £899 (or roughly $1,440 US). (via TechDigest)
