After announcing that two of its Android tablets Acer Iconia Tab A100 and A500 will be available in India in the next few weeks, the latter is now available for purchase in several stores across the country.

The first retailers to sell the tablet are Future Bazaar and IndiaPlaza, but other stores like Croma are also expected to pick Acer's Iconia Tab A500.

However, while Future Bazaar is selling the tablet for Rs. 27,690 (about $615), IndiaPlaza offers it for Rs. 29,990 (roughly $665).

Acer's flagship tablet is powered by a dual-core 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and runs Google's Android 3.0 Honeycomb platform.

In this regard, Acer confirmed plans to start selling the Iconia Tab A500 with Android 3.1 on board, and upgrade existing units with older firmware.

Unfortunately, it seems that Indian customers won't be able to take advantage of the latest iteration of the mobile platform, but they should expect a software upgrade soon.

Furthermore, the tablet comes with a large 10.1-inch LCD capacitive touchscreen with 262k colors support and 800 x 1280 pixels resolution.

The device features accelerometer sensor for auto-rotate, gyro sensor, proximity sensor for auto turn-off, and comes bundled with Acer UI.

Innovation is part of our DNA. With the launch of the ICONIA range of tablets in India, we believe this technology will change the dynamics of consuming digital content. Indian market is not too far behind when it comes to adopting new technologies, with the growing demand for the tablets in India we expect tablets to significantly contribute to our overall revenue in the calendar year 2011,” said W.S. Mukund, managing director Acer India.

The second tablet announced by Acer, the Iconia Tab A100 is expected to arrive in India in June, but the manufacturer has yet to reveal an exact date and price tag.
