The budget slate proves to be better assembled than the average Chinese slate

The Acer Iconia A-830 budget tablet has been introduced back in January, even before CES 2014 kick-started.

Now, the curious folks at ZOL have published a tear-down of the Iconia A1-830 showing the insides of the wallet-friendly tablet (via Mike Cane).

Taking a look at the photographs, one can discover the build quality seems to be superior to most of Chinese tablets out there. For example, you can notice the absence of the black tape.

Another nice surprise is the presence of two real speakers located behind the protective grills, as opposed to other Chinese offerings that come with a single stereo bundled under the hood.

The tablet is well assembled with a few but well-placed components that are easily removed if you have the right tools.

The battery is pretty easy to remove too and is connected to other components via a single cable. Of course, the display seems to be glued to the outer frame and glass cover, meaning it won’t easily come off.

But taking into account that the tablet costs just €169 / $233, we can conclude it is quite well built compared to similar offerings coming from white box Chinese vendors.

Anyway, for those of you who don’t know what the Acer Iconia A1-830 brings to the table, keep reading.

The slate comes with a 7.9-inch LED-backlit IPS display with a resolution of 1024 x 768 pixels and 4.3 aspect ratio.

Acer has slipped in a 1.6GHz Intel Atom Z2650 processor fitted with 1GB of RAM, complete with Hyper-Threading technology and PowerVR SGX544 GPU.

Acer also adds 16GB of internal storage (extendable to 32GB via the microSD card) and two cameras (5MP rear one with 1080p video recording and 2MP front snapper with 720p video recording). On top of that, users will get Wi-Fi, Bluetooth 3.0 and microUSB.

Acer says the tablet is perfect to provide a flawless portable media experience, which includes smooth video playback and the delivery of rich sounds via the tablet’s dual-speakers.

The slate is expected to provide up to 7.5 hours of battery life witch is quite decent, but the company mentions this could vary based on model, configuration, apps and power management settings. The slate is also very light, weighing just 380 g / 0.83 lbs.

As for operating system, Acer officials have already claimed the slate will be upgradable to Android 4.4 KitKat and the update should arrive somewhere around this summer.
