It seems that the latest Android-powered smartphone unveiled by Acer is really catchy as the device was awarded the Best Choice and Design & Innovation prizes at the 2011 Computex, in Taipei.

The device was awarded based on a thorough evaluation criteria, including degree of innovation, design quality, choice of materials, environmental friendliness, functionality and brand value, among others.

The Iconia Smart has a huge 4.8-inch widescreen display with a 21:9 aspect ratio, which position the device at the threshold between tablets and smartphones.

The smartphone's full metal body is enriched by wavy patterns, but perfectly fits in user's hand thanks to its smoothly curved back.

Even though it might not be the first option for tinkerers and Android fans because of its large chassis, potential customers may have a second thought as the Iconia Smart offers a smooth web browsing experience as using a traditional PC.

Websites are in no way resized and adjusted thanks to the screen's resolution of 1024 x 480 pixels.

Given the fact that the phone comes with such a large 4.8-inch display, the zooming function will not be needed too often.

Furthermore, the Iconia Smart is bundled with Java script optimization and Adobe Flash Player 10.1 support, as well as ultra-fast high-speed connectivity via HSDPA (14.4 Mbps) and WiFi N for data connection.

The LED backlit display uses the same technology as TV showing super bright and vivid images, while the Dolby Mobile technology delivers immersive sound.

On the inside Acer ICONIA SMART features a single core 1GHz Snapdragon processor, which, in addition to the large screen, turns this smartphone into a perfect game console.

Along with the 6-axis motion sensing (Gyroscope + accelerometer), the device may exceed any gamer’s expectation.

The phone is powered by Android 2.3 Gingerbread sweetened with an enhanced Acer user interface.

Other highlights of Iconia Smart include an 8-megapixel main camera with LED flash, as well as a secondary 2-megapixel front-facing camera for high quality video calling.
