It seems that ambitions and high goals never cease on the IT market, and Acer appears to be one of the more determined parties, having supposedly decided to aim for the top in terms of PC sales, a purpose set to be met by next year's end.

Those that have been keeping track of such developments might know that, for the third quarter of the ongoing year, HP was again the world's greatest supplier of personal computers.

It reached a total number of sales of 15.67 million units, while Acer was second, with 11.6 million,

End-users may also remember that, about one year ago, Acer was successful in overcoming Dell's own performance, which meant it gained second place.

As expected, Acer's success was mostly owed to its focus on the mobile computer market, as netbooks and notebooks have been steadily growing in sales.

Granted, tablets have been supposedly slowing down the growth of netbooks shipments, but growth was present nonetheless, so Acer's shipments grew along with this market.

Moving forward, the company intends to keep taking advantage of this steady shipment growth until it is successful in its quest for supremacy.

Basically, Acer intends to supplant HP as the world's greatest supplier of PCs, or so it is reported.

Achieving this purpose implies that Acer has to remain number one on the netbook market while snatching away the same top spot on the rest of the PC industry.

The outfit also expects to sell more than a million telephones, even though its success on the handset market hasn't exactly been overly stellar so far.

Nevertheless, the point remains that Acer hopes to achieve the highest position in terms of computer shipments by the end of next year, 2011.

The company will naturally bet on the tablet market in addition to the segments it has been dealing in so far.
