Meant for gamers on a budget

It appears that Acer may be intent on carrying out one of its product launch sprees. While it doesn't appear set to unleash a string of new laptops one after another, the company did already show off the 27-inch S273HL. Now, the same PC and hardware maker has officially announced the existence of another, full line of liquid crystal displays whose target consumer base is larger than that of its siblings. Said line goes by the name of G5 and includes members with a variety of screen sizes and resolutions.

To be more specific, the G5 line is composed of 19-inch, 20-inch, 22-inch, 23-inch and 24-inch models. All of them have a native screen resolutions of 1920 x 1080 pixels, 1600 x 900 pixels or 1366 x 768 pixels. All in all, they should each be able to meet the needs of a certain group of customers, with the full line meant to cover the entire budget-conscious gamer field.

Acer didn't shy away from actually turning its devices into worthwhile investments though. As far as design goes, the G5 monitors are built with hard edges and sharp cut surfaces. Even the stand has an X-shape, supposedly in order to make the overall aspect look more fierce. As for actual performance, all of them have a contrast ratio of 80,000:1 and D-Sub, D-Sub plus DVI and HDMI inputs, depending on model. Furthermore, they have low response times, thanks to the Overdrive (OD) technology that their maker implemented. The Taiwanese PC supplier even threw in the Adaptive Contrast Management (ACM) function, which dynamically adjusts contrast while lowering power consumption.

Unfortunately, Acer didn't prove to be exactly generous when it came to pricing and availability information, resolving to keep it under wraps for an undetermined amount of time. Hopefully it won't be long until these final details are uncovered.
