Hopefully not with the same outcome though

Remember not so long ago, a massive battery recall from Sony turned the notebook world upside down and shook it really, really hard. Everybody was amazed that such a mishap will come, yet alone believe that Sony was behind the dreaded, exploding, notebook batteries. But, then again, they tried to make it up to the buyers by replacing, for free, all of the batteries from that series, whether faulty or not. The people that got a true bargain out of that were the ones that had already been using their notebook for several years without a hitch and now as the batteries were beginning to fade in performance, the free upgrade came as cool bonus.

But there was also the case of the people whose notebooks caught fire, which meant some lost information, time, money and maybe even a house or two. Jokes aside, having your notebook burst into flames isn't quite the most pleasant experience to go through and the simple fact that Sony got away without a multi-million dollar lawsuit is a miracle. All of the companies that had contracted Sony for the batteries got free exchanges for all of them; all they had to do was to give them back. Apparently Acer America forgot to give back some 27.000 batteries of which they've remembered recently.

So a massive battery recall was in order, which came as an "act in the interest of consumer safety", under the watchful eyes of the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commision and Sony. On the other hand, as the profits remain constant and no money loss is foreseeable, Acer is considering in buying other companies to expand its portfolio, nice deal.
