This week, Acer is updating its portfolio of business-bound laptops with the introduction of the new Extensa 15 series.

The company says that the new laptops boast one of the slimmest form factors in the category (15.6 inches) plus an easy-grip design that enables users to better hold the laptops when they are handling them. Because laptops slipping from our hands are a scenario most of us are familiar with.

The laptop weighs about 2.5 kg / 5.5 lbs, so it can be carried around without users having to strain themselves too much.

The laptop comes with a touchscreen, and Acer highlights that the touch-gesture response accuracy has been significantly improved. On top of that, unintended clicks and cursor motions are reduced by up to 94%.

Extensa takes advantage of Acer’s own Chiclet keyboard with numeric keypad, which is said to be delivering a quiet typing experience.

The new series relies on a 4th-gen Intel Core processor or Intel Celeron / Pentium quad-core chips, depending on the customer’s needs.

For those who want bumped performance on board of their laptop, Acer throws in the possibility of adding a full HD option. Even if we’re not specifically told, the base model is probably coming with the average 1366 x 768 pixel resolution, but luckily there’s a possibility to upgrade to something better.

Judging by the fact that Extensa should be a professional notebook, we would have thought Acer would be making the full HD display a default.

Moreover, Acer is offering the option of bringing the NVIDIA GeForce 800M discrete graphics onboard, although we’re not told whether the high-end 880M is also available or just the lower-end cards.

The laptop also boasts two high-quality speakers and a built-in digital microphone that uses MEMS (Micro Electro Mechanical Systems) technology, which makes it one of the most sensitive mics on the market.

In order to keep information on the laptop safe, Acer has equipped the new lineup with an M-DISC Ready drive.

This is a new data storage solution designed to continue working in extreme conditions and that can’t be easily overwritten. Acer even claims that the information encrypted on an M-DISC will be viable in the next 1,000 years.

The Extensa 15 can ship with a series of accessories, including an extra battery pack, additional adapters, carry cases, and wireless mice.

Acer has announced the Extensa 15 laptops with Windows, but we’re not given any details about when the products will become available or how much they will cost. We’re guessing they won’t be extremely pricey.
