Acer may have been a bit focused on the tablet market recently, but it looks like its labs have not been slacking off at all, having delivered other sorts of devices, in this case a pair of monitors with 3D support.

The problem with 3D is that it is still an immature technology, meaning that improvements are being sought all the time.

One consequence of this could be how IT players seem to always be designing better and better models, though the few glasses-free ones are far from perfect.

In this instances, Acer did not even bother with the prospect, having settled for good old, out of the box, 3D active shutter glasses-aided models.

Two displays were released, with screen diagonals of 23.6-inches (HS244HQ) and 27-inches (HN274H).

They have a native resolution of 1,920 x 1,080 pixels (Full HD) and a refresh rate of 120 Hz (60 Hz for each eye).

Additionally, their response time is of 2 ms, while the viewing angles are of 170 and 160 degrees, respectively, horizontally and vertically.

What's more, the contrast ratio is of 12,000,000:1 (100,000,000;1 on the HN274H) and power-efficient LED backlighting (which also contributes to brightness and clarity)..

"Acer's newest 3D displays are a powerful tool for providing fun and visual excitement for years to come. Their compelling benefits include an ultra high level of clarity and 50 percent more power savings than other 3D solutions," said Dan Oka, senior product marketing manager for peripherals, Acer America.

"Setting the standard for premium 3D multimedia, the new Acer 3D displays give the sensation of full immersion in a virtual world, while the contemporary design sports stylish features, convenient touch-sensitive controls and earth-friendly materials."

The monitors have built-in 2W speakers and adjustable stands, plus touch controls and 3-year warranties. The HS244HQ sells for $449, while the HN274H is priced at $689.
