Taiwanese hardware maker Acer has confirmed the rumors that suggested the outfit is working on their own version of an Nvidia Tegra 3-powered tablet running the Android OS which will make its entrance sometime in 2012.

The tablet will be released into the company’s Iconia Tab line and is supposed to quickly follow Asus’ own Transformer Prime.

This confirmation comes from none other than Acer’s President Jim Wong who had an exclusive talk with T3.com at the company's Taiwan development headquarters.

“Acer was the first to follow Motorola with a Honeycomb tablet in 2011 after the launch of the XOOM and we intend to remain very aggressive on that front," said Mr. Wong.

"You may have seen some leaked stories in the media relating to Acer launching a new quad-core tablet and I can confirm these stories are true.”

In addition to confirming the company’s plans to use the Nvidia-built quad-core Tegra 3 system-on-a-chip (SoC) device in their upcoming tablet, Mr. Wong also dismissed the rumors that stated the company is considering dishing Android in favor of the upcoming Windows 8 OS.

“Tablets are a very important category to expand our business. We are the only company selling Windows 7 tablets in volume and next year we will continue to do the same thing with second generation windows tablets on the way in addition to our Android tablets,” said Acer’s President.

No information regarding this upcoming Tegra 3 tablet was disclosed, but his will most probably use the 4.0 version of the Android OS, also known under the code name of Ice Cream Sandwich.

The launch date of the tablet also isn’t known, but the device could be unveiled at either CES in January or during the Mobile World Congress in February.
