Acer's upstream suppliers and ODMs worried they won't get their orders

Acer may not be doing so hot, something that has held true for years at this point, but the departure of the Chief Executive Officer might do quite a bit of harm.

Acer dropped the CEO position entirely not long ago, in a sense, after the President and Chairman of the board assumed those duties.

Unfortunately, former CEO Jim Wong was in charge of distributing orders, and this has caused concern among suppliers and ODMs.

For 2014, there aren't likely to be any problems, since Acer has completed its request for quotation (RFQ) process.

2015 orders might be left in the air though, and some suppliers could end up in the dust depending on the change in marketing tactics the new company leadership decides on.

It might seem odd to worry over what seems like a far off period, but roadmaps are made for several years at once, and suppliers' fates are somewhat tied to them.

It is hoped that a successor to Jim Wong will be found soon, and the CEO post reinstated, so that things could get back into their groove. Until then, though, we can't be sure how Acer intends to tackle 2015.
