In early November, we brought you news that a mysterious Acer Chromebook showed up on Amazon France. And unlike the previous two Chrome-enabled devices released by Acer so far, this product appeared to feature a touch screen.

Now the company has officially pulled the veil off the new laptop. So far, we didn't have a name for the new offering, but that’s no longer the case. The new C720P Chromebook will become available in the US starting next week from retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy and the official Acer Store, for the price of $299 / €220.

CTO of Acer, Arif Maskatia made the official announcement by saying the “new touchscreen CT20P gives customers an intuitive way to browse sites online, enjoy apps, and do more with the Chromebook.”

“The Acer C720 Chromebook line has been praised for its performance in battery life, and this new touchscreen model allows us to address the needs of an even wider range of customers with exciting new capabilities.”

The company says it will launch several configurations for the device, with the base model being the one priced at $299 / €220.

For this price, customers will be served with an 11.6-inch touch-enabled ComfyView HD display with a resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels. Acer has added the latest Haswell architecture under the hood, slipping an Intel Celeron 2955U processor coupled with 2GB of RAM.

The manufacturer also bundles 32GB of RAM, so users can store their files. On top of that, those purchasing the touch-enabled Chromebook will be also awarded 100GB of free Google Drive storage for the next two years, plus 12 free Gogo Inflight passes.

Other functionalities include Wi-Fi a/b/g/n, USB 3.0 plus USB 2.0 ports and HDMI out. The Chromebook weighs 2.98 pounds / 1.35 kg , so it will certainly make for a great travel companion. Those interested, should keep an eye for it, starting next week.
