Acer Aspire Switch 10 competes with ASUS Transformer Book T100

You might remember the Acer Aspire Switch 10 3-in-1 machine unveiled in New York back in April. Since then, the device has been offered for purchase with 32GB and 64GB of internal storage options, but this might not be enough for some enthusiasts.

Now, Acer is offering a model that takes advantage of additional memory in the form of a 500GB hard drive, which lives in the dedicated keyboard dock, as spotted by TabTech.

The price discrepancy isn’t that big either. The new device has showed up in an online retail location in Europe, showing us the new model will be sold for €50 / $68 extra than the 32GB model and for the same amount as the 64GB, meaning €399 / $545.

For the time being only a 32GB model with 500HDD in the dock has surfaced and it will be available starting mid-July, but maybe Acer will be rolling out a 64GB offering too.

The Acer Aspire Switch arrives equipped with a 10.1-inch IPS display that offers 1366 x 768 pixel resolution. It would have been nice to see a full HD version of the device coming with that extra 500HDD of storage, but we can’t have all in one day, can we?

The tablet/laptop takes advantage of an Intel Bay Trail Z3745 quad-core processor fitted with 2GB of RAM and backed up by 32GB / 64 GB of internal storage, as mentioned above (expandable via microSD card).

The only disadvantage of having the extra 500GB in your keyboard dock is that the overall device will weigh a little more, but this aspect shouldn't prove to be an incommodity.

The Acer Aspire Switch 10 runs on Windows 8.1 and comes bundled with the full version of Office 2013. This is reminiscent to the ASUS Transformer Book T100, which also got a 500GB makeover a while back.

However, before considering to jump onboard with Acer for this product, you should know early adopters of the device are already complaining of being faced with a some pesky touchpad responsiveness issues.

Given that these problems have been spotted this early, we can’t help but wonder about the quality of the product and so should you.

Anyway, as we mentioned above, it would be worth considering the ASUS Transformer Book T100 alternative, which is also offered with a 500GB HDD in the keyboard dock and sells for the same price. The ASUS Transformer Book T100 has received excellent reviews, so it might be safer to roll with this one.
