While we're still eagerly waiting for the bulk of Acer's CES-related announcements, we'll go over somewhat of a familiar topic, namely the Aspire One 522 netbook built around AMD's Fusion platform, that has just been officially unveiled.

As some of you will certainly remember, Acer's netbook was one of the first portable computing systems built on the Fusion APU to be leaked online, way back in December.

However, the company's official announcement provides a full set of specs, starting with the fact that that the Aspire One 522 features the new AMD C-50 APU, accompanied by the AMD Radeon HD 6250 graphics, enabling not only HD playback (1080p video output via the HDMI connector) but also the necessary support for Microsoft DirectX 11.

Unfortunately, although the hardware does support HD playback, the Acer Aspire 522's displays comes a little short, since the netbook has only been equipped with a 28 cm (10.1-inch) Acer CrystalBrite LED backlit high brightness display, offering 1280 x 720 pixels (WXGA) resolution and 16:9 aspect ratio.

The new Acer Aspire One 522 model is available in two colour options, namely Diamond Black and green, and also sports a large-size keyboard for comfortable typing.

Additionally, similar to most other portable computing systems released on the market lately, also packs a multi-gesture touchpad, enabling a higher level of convenience during use.

The Aspire 522 offers plenty of connectivity and networking options, including Wi-Fi, LAN and optional 3G or Bluetooth, that can be used both for browsing the Internet and for engaging in online audio or video conferences, with the help of the built-in Acer Crystal Eye webcam and digital microphone.

Following its usual habits, Acer has not provided any significant information regarding the pricing and availability of the new Aspire One 522 netbook, probably because these details will vary, depending on the local markets.
