Though it has recently again slipped to third place as top worldwide PC supplier, Acer seems quite eager to make up for this slight setback, its means apparently including the Aspire 5745P, a notebook based on Intel's 2010 platform and equipped with a multi-touch panel.

The battle for the top spots as suppliers of PCs has been raging for years, and while HP has, more or less, held supremacy, Dell and Acer have been closer to trumping each other.

Last year, Acer deposed Dell as second greatest supplier, only to be again pushed to third spot just recently.

Nevertheless, Acer is all but resigned to its fate, its offer for the European market now expanded with a fairly powerful notebook with multi-touch input.

Companies have been complaining about the weak demand in Europe for months now, and Acer seems to have decided that it's easier to just aim at the upper parts of the market.

Thus, the Aspire 5745P uses an Intel Core i5-450M central processing unit, based on the 32nm manufacturing process.

This CPU is backed up by 4GB of RAM, though it's the discrete graphics card that handles most multimedia and other graphically-loaded tasks.

To be more specific, Acer went for the NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M, which has 1GB of memory and full reign over the machine's display.

This display has a screen size of 15.6 inches and a native resolution of 1,366 x 768 pixels, which means HD videos will be a non-issue.

Other specifications include a hard drive with a capacity of 500 GB, a Blu-ray drive and the full range of connectivity and I/O options.

The list includes a 5-in-1 card reader, a 1.3 megapixel webcam, Gigabit Ethernet, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and a HDMI output.

Finally, the machine is on sale in Europe and has a price tag of 999 Euro.
