As always, companies have a sort of goal in mind when selling a product or another, and it looks like Acer has decided on one for the Iconia line of tablets, or so reports seem to suggest.

Acer's Iconia is one of those product series which is made up of more than one model, since the users it seeks to enthrall are varied.

In fact, being the company's collection of slates, there are multiple form factors (7 inches, 10.1 inches) and more than one used OS (Android, Windows).

Granted, there is still the general impression that Android tablets, at least, are still to expensive to perform well against the Apple iPad.

Nevertheless, Acer is fairly optimistic about the immediate future of its devices, having set a none too small figure for the ongoing year.

More specifically, the company has been placing very high orders with its Taiwanese production partners, its goal being to sell 1,000,000 by the end of 2011.

According to Digitimes, Compal Electronics, Acer's main Iconia production partner, shipped 300,000 of those units in the month of April alone.

For those that want even more details, a large number of those, 70% in fact, had a diagonal of 10.1 inches.

Now, Acer is said to have further increased its tablet shipments, especially after revising its overall business outlook in the wake of its former CEO's departure.

Meanwhile, Cando and Sintek Photronics, Acer's main suppliers of touch sensors, also reflect the growing Iconia sales in the orders they've been getting, although nothing specific was given.

Finally, it is suggested that supply was actually unable to meet demand in the April-May period, which means that the reaction to the Iconia was quite favorable.

What remains is to see if the end of 2011 really does see the company succeeding in this endeavor.
