If you were craving for the good old days, when Acer used to offer tablets with decent specs, you should know one such device might be upon us in the near future.

Yesterday we brought you news of the 2014 HD version of the Lenovo's K1 tablet, but now it appears Acer too is planning a slate with a more capable screen.

We have seen the device maker announce a lot of budget slates recently, but as we pointed out, Acer used to make tablets with better configurations.

The A1-840 FHD model seems to be one such device. The “normal” A1-840 has visited the GFX Bench database, showing us the tablet will arrive with an Intel Z3745 CPU, 1GB of RAM, an 8-inch screen and 1280 x 800 pixel resolution.

Despite the A1-840 not even being announced, the FHD version has already popped up on the same website.

The new version will come with a 7.9-inch screen with a resolution of 1920 x 1200 pixels, but will pack the same processor under the bonnet, as the normal version, meaning a 1.8 GHz quad-core Intel Bay Trail-T CPU, brings word ArcTablet.

Even better, the new slate runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box, so customers won’t have to wait to be updated anymore.

Other specifications include 2GB of RAM, two cameras (5MP in front and 2MP on the back), Bluetooth and GPS. The tablet has scored 513 points in the Manhattan test; therefore, we can say it will offer a decent performance.

As mentioned above, in recent times, Acer has been focusing on the low-end and mid-range segment of the tablet market, even if at some point in the past, the company also launched high-end models that came with hefty price tags.

Acer might be having the Aspire Switch SW5 convertible in the works as well, a 2-in-1 machine that is expected to allow users to access both tablet and laptop mode on the device.

However, Acer’s most recent offerings come from the low-end category, including the Iconia B1-720, which is a 7-inch slate running a MediaTek processor, and the Iconia A1-830 that arrives with a 7.9-inch screen and draws power from an Intel Atom Z2560 dual-core processor.

Acer has also scheduled a media press event on April 29 in New York and maybe we’re going to see the Iconia A1-840 and Iconia A-840 FHD unveiled there.

Furthermore, recent speculation pinpoints Acer might end up pulling the world’s first Chrome OS tablet out of the bag at the event, too.

We could also end up seeing a wearable and a few new Chromebook models. Stay tuned next week to find out what Acer has in store for you.
