Navy Yard shooting suspect Aaron Alexis has been described by all those who knew him as childish, kind and good-spirited.

He was a Buddhist who had traveled to Thailand. After being discharged from the Navy for misconduct, he got a job as a waiter at the Happy Bowl Thai restaurant in the Fort Worth suburb of White Settlement.

He could speak the language and clients were happy with him. Ty Thairintr, of Fort Worth, describes meeting Alexis five years ago, while he was still in the Navy.

"He told me he believed he had superior abilities to his co-workers but he didn't get promoted. [...] He complained about the rank and file not giving him respect," he recalls for LA Times.

Thairintr is also a Buddhist and he would regularly attend ceremonies at the same temple as Alexis. He shares that the late suspect was planning to become a Buddhist monk.

"He was a very devoted Buddhist. [...] He chanted better than me," he says.
