The latest drivers for Windows and Linux

The Canadians from ATI stuck to their update program and announced a new version of the Catalyst driver, Catalyst 5.10. The drivers are available for "classic" Windows and 64 bit Windows; the Linux version will be released soon.

The list of improvements doesn't mention anything about video card performance increase, but, according to The Inquirer, some of the latest games have recorded a performance increase after the new drivers were installed. Far Cry, Half Life 2 and Doom 3 are just a few of the titles tested by Tweaktown, which allowed a higher FPS rate once the FSAA and the Anisotropic filtering were activated.

The new drivers solve many of the previously reported bugs, and the absolute novelty is the support for the ATI CrossFire technology, a solution which allows several video cards to be installed on the same system, considerably increasing the processing performances.

Unfortunately, the new drivers don't offer support for the latest ATI cards, the Radeon X1000 series. Updating the drivers is recommended for performance and stability reasons.
