ATI introduces new graphic processors for notebooks. ATI's Mobility Radeon X1700, Mobility Radeon X1450, and Mobility Radeon X1300 are "Vista Ready" and offer a balance between performance and power management (are able to support, beyond presentations, high definition videos and games, with longer battery life).

The first to adopt the new units will be Asus, with the X1700. "Today's mobile notebook users demand desktop-class processing performance with exceptional digital multimedia capability. ATI's Mobility Radeon X1700, with its powerful 3D, video, and power saving technologies, is an ideal solution for our Vista capable notebooks to deliver a true-to-life digital entertainment experience", said Tony Chen, general manager of ASUS Notebook Business. Peddie Research also backs up the series.

"With the imminent arrival of Vista and consumers buzzing about high-definition video, the demands on the graphics processor are enormous and no lightweight card can handle it. ATI's new Mobility Radeon graphics processors are Windows Vista-ready and up to the task of handling today's power-intensive HD and multimedia applications", said Jon Peddie.

The new family has some nice features. A longer battery life, courtesy of ATI's Powerplay 6 power management technology (automatically adjusts the balance between performance and power consumption based on workload; through a combination of hardware and software, Powerplay optimizes the clock speed and voltage of the Mobility Radeon graphics core depending on the requirements); advanced video processing and acceleration makes HD DVD playback smooth, and the graphics core easily handles the latest games - includes Avivo video display technology and HD-DVD/ H.264 and Blu-ray video playback.

Phil Eisler, senior vice president and general manager, Integrated and Mobile Business Unit, ATI Technologies, Inc., said that "with the Mobility Radeon X1K family, ATI continues its commitment to offering mobile users unrivaled dedicated graphics performance without sacrificing long battery life. As we enter the era of high-definition content, ATI is at the forefront; driving innovation that allows notebook manufacturers and consumers to realize the true potential of HD."
