Wireless carrier AT&T announced on Tuesday new upgrades it had performed to its 3G network in various markets in the country, including Boulder, Denver, Fort Collins, Greeley, Loveland, and along Front Range. According to the company, the new enhancements made to the network include the addition of 850MHz spectrum, which is meant to offer better indoor coverage for the mobile phone operator's users.

The new upgrades are expected to deliver better 3G wireless connectivity, performance and enhanced in-building wireless coverage, AT&T states, adding that the network capacity has also been improved, so that it will be able to meet the increasing demand for 3G mobile broadband services. The addition of high-quality 850 MHz spectrum has been mainly performed to offer better in-building coverage, yet users should see improvements in connectivity out in the open as well.

AT&T 3G customers are expected to observe the improvements in 3G connectivity although the results will vary by location, the carrier notes. Those who live in Boulder, Denver, Fort Collins, Greeley, Loveland, and along the Front Range area are also expected to increase the total 3G data traffic after the deployment of 850MHz spectrum, AT&T says, based on the fact that similar increases have been observed in other markets where the enhancement has been made.

“This substantial network upgrade is part of our commitment to deliver the nation’s fastest 3G connectivity along with the highest possible levels of service quality and reliability,” said Jace Barbin, vice president and general manager for AT&T’s wireless unit in the Rocky Mountain Region. “We know many customers depend on wireless as their primary communications connection to work, family and friends. We’re enhancing our network every day to help customers do more with and get more from their wireless connections.”

The wireless carrier also noted that it would continue to make improvements to its network, both by expanding its reach, as well as by improving the connectivity and capacity in areas where it was already available. According to the company, its customers consume more network bandwidth than the users of any other carrier in the US. "Investing in our network across Colorado is critical to serving our customers both in urban and rural areas. We are proud to offer real choices in service, devices and applications with an expanding network to support all of their needs," said AT&T Colorado president Bill Soards.
