It looks like AT&T's HTC Inspire 4G Android-based smartphone does not feature HSUPA capabilities.

Even though the manufacturer mentions the feature in the phone's specs sheet, AT&T denies the existence of HSUPA support.

According to the guys over at AndroidCommunity, who got the chance to test the phone's data transfer speeds, the Inspire 4G does not in fact have HSUPA enabled.

While the smartphone works perfectly fine while downloading on 3G, upload speeds vary a lot and are slow, overall.

A trustworthy unnamed source inside AT&T stated the fact that the phone comes unequipped for HSUPA, leading to the low upload speeds.

However, it unlikely for a device equipped with an HSPA+ chipset to not support HSUPA, especially that the feature was also mentioned by the manufacturer of the smartphone.

It is unclear if the feature has been disabled by AT&T and, if so, the reasons behind the decision. The fact still remains that HTC Inspire 4G owners won't be able to take advantage of the HSUPA support for the moment.

The carrier is yet to respond to clients’ inquiries about the disabled feature offering additional information other than the initial claim that the Inspire 4G “comes unequipped for HSUPA.”

As AT&T has already stated that the device does not feature HSUPA capabilities, there are little to no chances that the Inspire 4G will ever receive a software update to enable HSUPA support.

HTC Inspire 4G was officially announced in January 2011 and was introduced on the market through AT&T in February.

The device was advertised as one of the first 4G Android-powered smartphones available on the market and the first to work on AT&T's 4G network.

With speeds of up to 14.4 Mbps download (HSDPA), the Inspire 4G is an excellent choice for AT&T's customers who want to purchase a fast and reliable Android device.
