Apple's iPad 3G + WiFi device is expected to become available for purchase with data connectivity on AT&T's airwaves starting today, and the wireless carrier has just announced officially the plans it has put in place for its customers. No contract commitment is required, it seems, and users will benefit from easy, on-device activation and management too, the operator announced.

“AT&T is offering simple and straightforward 3G pre-paid data plans for iPad – complete with easy, on-device activation and management. Data plans for iPad include access to more than 20,000 AT&T Wi-Fi Hot Spots nationwide at no additional cost,” a PDF fact sheet from the wireless carrier reads.

Those interested in benefiting from iPad 3G data services from AT&T will be able to chose either a $14.99 option, which will deliver 250MB of data per month, or the $29.99 pre-paid plan, which includes unlimited data. Moreover, the company stresses on the fact that users will also enjoy unlimited access to AT&T’s 20,000+ Wi-Fi Hot Spots in the US, at no additional cost.

The aforementioned PDF fact sheet offers additional details on the matter, too: - One month of data service constitutes 30 days. - Billing cycle begins on iPad purchase date. - Charges go to your credit card. - Credit card is automatically renewed unless you cancel the contract-free service. - You can change your data plan at any time (presumably between the 250MB and unlimited data plans) - Customers get free AT&T WiFi HotSpot access.

According to AT&T, users will also be able to check the iPad data usage directly from the iPad. This option should prove useful for those who choose the 250MB of data plan, while those using the $30/month unlimited data plan won't need to check on the data usage. It seems that the Apple device will be set to warn users when they are running low on data quota. Moreover, users should have the possibility to add another 250MB plan straight from the device.
