AT&T, the largest mobile operator in the US (in terms of the number of subscribers), has proudly announced that Frost & Sullivan, the famous international growth consulting company, has awarded it with the "2008 North America Company of the Year" title.

The award comes as a recognition for AT&T's technological innovation and leadership, its commitment to mobile subscribers and its more than satisfying financial results.

"As competition continues to get stronger in the North American telecommunications market, AT&T has continued to take the steps needed to stay ahead of its competition. The company has managed to grow virtually every aspect of its business while continuing to invest in technology and products for future years. For its strategic approach to next-generation products and services, customer support and overall company performance throughout the last year, Frost & Sullivan recognizes AT&T with this award," declared Todd Day, analyst at Frost & Sullivan.

Bill Archer, chief marketing officer, AT&T Business, added: "This industry recognition reinforces our commitment to providing the highest-quality products and services to consumers and enterprise businesses throughout the world, while also focusing our efforts on driving mobile convergence applications. In addition, we're pleased to see Frost & Sullivan's acknowledgement of our leadership in working with global businesses, growth in wireless and solid financials."

With more than 71 million customers, AT&T is not only the largest mobile operator in the United States, but also on the entire American continent. However, the No. 1 position will not be AT&T's to keep for too long, as Verizon Wireless, currently the second largest US carrier, will soon complete the acquisition of Alltel and thus gather a subscriber base of more than 80 million customers.

We can't say whether 2009 will see Verizon as the one to get the award AT&T got now, but we can say that it surely has lots of chances to do so.
