Temporarily out of stock

AT&T has just posted dropped the prices for Palm Pre Plus and is now offering the smartphone for only $99.99. The new price requires a minimum data service starting at $15/month, as well as a 2-year contract with new activation. Unfortunately, even you meet these criteria you won't be able to get one that easy, as the operator's website is listing the device as being temporarily out of stock.

The fact that AT&T lowered the price and almost instantly has run out of stock seems at least weird. Especially that Sprint and Verizon's are also selling the device and they're almost complaining of their overstocks. It may be true, but the main reason behind this is probably the price they charge for the smartphone and the fees of data plans offered with Palm Pre Plus.

Here is a little comparison between the carriers offerings:

AT&T Online: Pre Plus: $99.99 Verizon Online: Pre Plus: $49.99, comes with free Mobile Hotspot Sprint Online: Pre $149.99.

All the above prices are only available for 2-year contracts. If you would like to buy the device with no contract the prices are consistently higher: AT&T - $300, Verizon - $600, and Sprint - $550. Unfortunately, to be able to take advantage of the lowest price, you will probably need to change carriers. This is very annoying if you want to change your device once at 2 years and your carrier doesn't offer you the best price on the market.

I'm not sure why Verizon and Sprint are still keeping their prices for Palm Pre Plus so high, especially that they're now offering much better alternatives with no more than $400. All those new Android smartphones will definitely prevent the above mentioned carriers' Palm Pre Plus stocks to get lower. A thumbs up for AT&T for dropping the price and hopefully they will get it in stock again soon.
