Finnish mobile phone maker Nokia is not playing only on the mobile phone and smartphone markets, but has also entered the netbook market with the recent launch of its first such device, the Booklet 3G. Rumored to hit the shelves for quite some time now, the netbook was announced officially about two months ago, and now it has also been put on sale in the United States via wireless carrier AT&T.

The capabilities of the new device will surely attract a wide range of AT&T customers, as it comes to the carrier's airwaves with Microsoft's Windows 7 right from the start, as well as with 3G/ HSPA connectivity options, along with Wi-Fi capabilities, an Intel Atom processor inside, a battery that can deliver up to 12 hours of usage time, and a selection of Nokia services pre-loaded on it, including the Ovi Suite and the Ovi Maps gadget.

“The Nokia Booklet 3G is a really sharp, exciting device and we look forward to powering it with the nation's fastest 3G network,” said Ralph de la Vega, president and CEO, AT&T Mobility and Consumer Markets. “Consumers and small business customers can't get enough mobile broadband. Nokia's mobile device leadership, together with AT&T's mobile broadband network leadership, Best Buy's retail reach and Windows 7, is a very strong line-up to drive this fast-growing market.”

Those interested in purchasing the new Nokia Booklet 3G will find it available at Best Buy and Best Buy Mobile locations all around the country, featuring a price tag of $299.99 upon the signing of a two-year service agreement with AT&T for an AT&T Data Connect plan. The device will reach the market in mid-November, Nokia says, adding that October 22 is the day when online pre-orders start.

“Our customers are looking for ways to stay connected no matter where they are and we're finding that netbooks and laptops are important companion devices next to the smartphone. The addition of the Nokia Booklet 3G to our stores will only serve to amplify consumer interest in this emerging mobile technology,” said Brian J. Dunn, CEO of Best Buy. “As the exclusive retailer through the holidays, Best Buy is uniquely positioned to offer this great product to consumers and ensure they have the knowledge, supporting products and services to use it the minute they leave our stores.”
