Taiwanese graphics card and motherboard maker ASUS has recently brought to market a series of graphics cards designed with a custom cooling solution, coming to provide computer enthusiasts with high levels of performance. Part of the company's high-end Matrix family, the GeForce 9600 GT, GeForce 9800 GT and Radeon HD 4850 Matrix cards are now expected to receive a new member, in the form of a new Radeon HD 4870-based solution. As it was to be expected, the upcoming card will be delivered with a custom cooler that is meant to effectively dissipate the heat over the overclocked GPU.

AMD's high-performance Radeon HD 4870 graphics processor, the RV770, currently powers the highest performance video card solutions on the market. These cards are known for delivering a high level of graphics performance, while also coming at a more affordable price point, compared with NVIDIA's flagship, the GeForce GTX 280. The card's GPU is built on AMD's 55nm manufacturing technology, which can support higher clock speeds, and is more energy efficient than the 65nm-based graphics solutions coming from the competition.

As far as ASUS' Radeon HD 4870 Matrix series is concerned, the card is expected to boast a factory-overclocked graphics processor that will provide a core speed of 770MHz, 20MHz over that of reference cards. The card itself comes equipped with 512MB of GDDR5 memory, which has been set to work at a frequency level of 3680MHz, a boost from the 3600MHz on the standard models. Aside from that, the Matrix EAH4870 will boast a dual-slot, dual fan heatsink solution, capable of providing a cool working environment for this latest generation Radeon graphics board.

Pictures of the card have already surfaced on the Internet on the French-language site matbe, which has also provided some technical specifications for it. Speaking of which, they also include the integrated hardware and software for total graphics card control. In addition, the card comes with full monitoring of temperature levels and power consumption for all its major components.

Unfortunately, pricing and availability details haven't been made public so far.
