WHQL (Windows Hardware Quality Labs) certification is a confirmation from Microsoft that both the hardware and the software of a PC component or device are reliable and fully compatible with a certain version of Windows.

Obviously, in this case, the version of Windows under the magnifying glass is Windows 8.1.

WHQL actually holds quite a bit of importance. For instance, BETA drivers for graphics cards don't get downloaded all that much, consumers choosing to wait for the WHQL version instead.

The only exception is when said drivers fix glitches or game-breaking video bugs, and even then some people choose to stay on the safe side.

The ASUS motherboard that has just received WHQL certification is the Z87-C, with LGA 1150 CPU support (Haswell Celeron, Pentium and Core).

Certification for other products will be announced at a later date.
