Chromebooks are uncharted territory for ASUS, at the moment

ASUS is one of the prominent notebook vendors on the market today, but unlike other PC manufacturers out there, it hasn't tried its hand at building Chromebooks. But it’s never too late to change.

A recent report coming out from Taiwan via FocusTaiwan claims that the tech company is planning to release two Chromebook models in Q1 2014 with affordable price tags. The first is expected to be made available for $249 / €185, while the second one will be even cheaper with a $199 / €148 price tag.

More information about what the devices are going to pack on the inside are not known yet, but since these are going to be ASUS’ first Chrome enhanced devices, we’re definitely curious.

ASUS is confident that the Chromebook market has a lot of potential. Recently, the NPD Group revealed that Chrome laptops were the products driving sales in the computer department for the “back-to-school” period (between June 30 and September 7.)

ASUS CEO Jerry Shen hopefully predicted that Chromebook sales in the US would amount for 3 million units by the end of the year and rise to 4 million in 2014.
