ASUS, one of the leading brands in the computing industry, is expected to update its line of G-series laptops, designed for gaming enthusiasts, with the introduction of a new, 15.6-inch model. Dubbed G51J3D, the new laptop will provide users with some of the latest hardware specifications available for a portable computer system, but also with a choice for a 3D-enabled machine. This unique feature will appeal to those gaming enthusiasts that will most likely enjoy the high-quality 3D effects in the current and upcoming games.

The G51J3D and a 17.3-inch version that will be known as the G72GX will be part of ASUS's impressive line of gaming-focused portable computer systems. While the company was quite silent on the technical details of the 17.3-inch version, our colleagues over at Register Hardware were lucky enough to find more about the G51J3D and even had a chance to play around with the system.

At the core of the upcoming laptop, there's a Core i7 processor that will provide the necessary processing power to run the latest games and other CPU-challenging applications. In addition, the laptop comes equipped with NVIDIA's GeForce GTX 160M graphics chip, featuring 1GB of DDR3 memory, coupled with up to 4GB of system memory and two 320GB HDDs. All of that has been made available in a 15.6-inch laptop that boasts a display with a 120Hz refresh rate and a 3D performance that is said to be better than Acer's solution, according to the fellows over at Register Hardware.

Unlike Acer's 3D laptop, the upcoming ASUS G51J3D has been featured with an active shutter technology, which the company claims to work better with the laptop's 1080p display. The company will only ship one pair of polarising glasses with the laptop, but the technology enables up to 15 people to sit around the system and watch a 3D movie, without worrying about the viewing angle.

No word on pricing just yet, but the company plans to launch the laptop next month, while the bigger, 17-inch G72GX system is scheduled to arrive in the second quarter of 2010.
