14 DAY TRIAL // ASUS, one of the world's leading vendors of computer platforms, components and computer systems, is expected to announce the introduction of its latest Core i7-supporting motherboard, the P6X58 Premium. Aside from the support for Intel's highest-performance processors and triple-channel DDR3 memory, the new motherboard will provide computer enthusiasts and system builders with support for two of the latest technologies in connectivity, USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s. These features should provide users with support for a truly high-end desktop PC that can deliver an optimum performance level and support for upcoming devices.
The fellows over at Xfastest were lucky enough to get their hands on a series of pictures of the board, providing us with details on what to expect from the upcoming X58-based platform. Aside from the usual PCI-Express and PCI expansion slots, the six DDR3 memory DIMMs and the motherboard's cooling solution, the P6X58 Premium delivers a couple of interesting features, like two USB 3.0 ports and SATA 6Gb/s ports. These connectivity options should allow users to make good use of the board as a potential platform for future-proof desktop PCs.
Unfortunately, there are no details regarding the pricing and availability of this board and we are still waiting for some of the first benchmarks of the USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gb/s connectivity. Nevertheless, the fact that ASUS plans one such board only confirms that the industry is moving towards these next-generation solutions, providing the consumer with an increased performance level and more options.
The launch of the first USB 3.0 motherboard will also set the stage for the first USB 3.0-compatible devices, including consumer electronics, storage devices or other computer-related products. The SATA 6Gb/s standard should make its way in the mainstream channel quite rapidly, enabling computer enthusiasts to further increase their rig's performance.
