AMD's latest chipset

ASUS has recently rolled out a new motherboard based on one of AMD's latest products, the 790GX graphics integrated chipset. The new ASUS M3A78-T has been designed to support AMD's latest CPUs and graphics cards, with help from one of the most promising chipsets to have been released by Advanced Micro Devices so far.

As we mentioned in a couple of our previous posts, after the official release of AMD's 790GX chipset, a number of companies were expected to announce a couple of new boards. Clearly, ASUS is among these manufacturers, and the release of the M3A78-T just goes to confirm it.

The board has been built on a black PCB and features three PCI Express 2.0 x16 graphics slots, as well as a PCIe x1. This should be enough to enable high-performance graphics using three Radeon graphics cards coupled together in a CrossFireX setup. The integrated graphics will enable users to benefit from AMD's Hybrid CrossFireX technology, which can improve graphics using just one ATI discrete graphics card. Users can also connect up to three Radeon graphics cards that, along with the integrated graphics, allow for Quad-CrossFire support.

The board is obviously compatible with AMD's AMD2+ and AMD2 processors, and boasts four DDR2 1066 memory DIMMs. The integrated ATI Radeon HD 3300 GPU is able to accelerate onboard graphics processes through its built-in 128MB of DDR3 shared memory.

There's one Ultra DMA 133/100 connector, as well as five SATA and one eSATA ports, with support for RAID 0, 1, 5 and 10. The board also provides support for GB LAN and 8-Channel HD so, in the end, you should get a pretty impressive desktop computer system.

Unfortunately, ASUS has failed to provide details regarding the product's pricing and availability so far, but it's likely you?ll be able to find the board at various retailers by the end of this month.
