The device was launched for the first time in Taiwan a few years ago

ASUS has made a lot of fuss lately with the launch of its latest 4-in-1 dual OS machine, the Transformer Book Duet, which most of you surely recognize by name.

But ASUS also has some underground products like the Eee Note EA800 eReader, which was originally launched in Taiwan back in 2010 and then made its way to Europe in 2011. The gadget was supposed to arrive in the US as well but for some reason never made it.

But now three years later, the ASUS EA800 is available for purchase in the United States for the price of $179 / / €132. Retailer Newegg is offering it and calls it “First from Asia” which means the device will be imported from overseas.

The ASUS EA800 is quite an atypical product blending eReader functions with the ones of a digital Notepad. It comes bundling an 8-inch monochrome non-backlit display with a swell 1024 x 768 pixel resolution and support for 64 levels of grey.

The device has a very sensitive Wacom touchscreen and supports a stylus which can be used for taking notes. Other specifications include 4GB of internal storage, a microSD card, micro USB port, Wi-Fi and menu buttons. The battery is said to provide 13.5 hours of life (with the wireless turned off).
