The lawsuit that VIA launched against ASUS has garnered its first response

Not too many days ago, VIA sued ASUS over alleged misappropriation of trade secrets related to Universal Serial Bus technology. ASUS is now responding.

As one might have expected, Asustek is not caving to the initial pressure.

The trade secrets supposedly stolen made VIA ask for damages of NT$4.137 billion / $138 million / €100 million.

ASUS’ main counter argument is that VIA's grief is with ASMedia, so ASUS should not be included in the lawsuit.

“Asustek Computer and Asmedia Technology are independent legal entity by any means. To include Asus Computer in the case is not applicable in law,” a statement by Asus with Taiwan Stock Exchange reads.

So basically ASUS thinks that VIA is just trying to disturb its operations (that was also on the statement). I'll keep an eye on things and report further developments.
