An ASUS slate with a 9.4-inch screen has also been spotted

Earlier this month, the unannounced ASUS K007 tablet with Moorefield processor was spotted making an appearance at the FCC. Now it looks like the company has more slates in the pipeline but these ones will boast some atypical screen sizes.

Two new ASUS tablets were uncovered by the folks at Mobile Geeks in the lofty database of GFXBench. As we often tell you, this does not necessarily indicate the new models are real products that will actually be sold to mainstream customers.

There’s a chance ASUS is just testing these prototypes, but then again we can never know for sure until the products are actually announced.

The new tablets go by model numbers ASUS K01E and K01B and come with 9.4-inch and 14.2-inch screens, respectively. Now this is certainly something we haven’t seen before, so it seems to us that ASUS might be trying to follow in Samsung’s steps.

The Korean tech giant is currently offering multiple tablets with large screens, but it has never gone as far as adopting the 14-inch factor. At some point, word on the street had it that the company might be working towards a 13.3-inch effort, but we never got to see anything of the sort until then.

Going back to ASUS’ new set of tablets, the smaller one is the less impressive of the duo. It should arrive with a 9.4-inch screen offering the average 1280 x 800 pixels. As for processor, the device will take advantage of a quad-core CPU of the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro variety.

Since Qualcomm has better chips to offer, the presence of the S4 Pro model indicates the tab won’t sell for a super expensive price tag.

It also has two cameras (1.8MP on the back and 0.3MP up in front), 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage and it appears to come devoid of an ambient light sensor.

Moving on to the larger model – the ASUS K01B, it makes sense to speculate that the device could be coming under the Transformer Pad brand (since it runs Android 4.4.2 KitKat out of the box, like the smaller one). That means the machine could be sold with a keyboard bundle.

The other possibility is that ASUS is planning to unleash a mega tablet from the MeMO Pad family or something of the sort.

The specifications of the 14.2-incher concur with the ones found inside the smaller one, with a few exceptions: the display offers FHD resolution (1920 x 1200 pixels), we have 2GB of RAM and a 5MP rear camera and 1.2MP in front plus a light sensor.

If the products turn out to be real, there’s a good chance that ASUS will put them on display at IFA 2014, which is bound to kick start in a few weeks.
