ASUS is following in HP’s footsteps in offering colorful Chromebooks

Earlier this month, ASUS and Intel finally announced the C200 and C300 Chromebooks, saying they will become available sometimes in June.

Now the folks at MobileGeeks have managed to get their hands on a bunch of new details regarding the two new models, although they don’t radically change what we knew so far.

We should remind you that details about the two Chrome OS laptops were made available some while ago, by virtue of a few retail listings spotted in Europe.

Anyway, according to the new information the two ASUS items will come with slightly different form factors than what was previously thought. The C200 will arrive with a 12-inch form factor (initially thought 11.6-inch), while the larger C300 will come with a 13-inch screen (not 13.3-inch).

Besides the slight difference in display size, the rest of specification list remains the same. The two models will arrive bundled with Intel Celeron Bay Trail dual-core N2830 SoCs clocked at 2.16GHz (with burst speeds up to 2.39GHz thanks to Turbo Boost).

Resolution-wise, customers will be confronted with the standard 1366 x 768 pixels, but if you want a boost in this department, you should probably go for the 13.3-inch Samsung Chromebook 2.

Both laptops are fanless and arrive equipped with 2GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, dual-band Wi-Fi 11ac, Bluetooth 4.0, SD card, USB 2.0 and 3.0 plus HDMI.

Like with any other Chromebooks available on the market today, Google offers 100GB of extra storage in the first two years since you purchased the machine.

A design feat that pops out is the larger touchpads. We don’t know the exact specifics, but the two laptops have multi-finger touchpads, something akin to what can be seen in 14-inch notebooks.

There’s a new detail we should draw your attention towards. If you had enough of laptops arriving with boring white/gray or black paint jobs, ASUS is looking to spice things up and provide something more playful for your pleasure.

When the C300 Chromebook arrives in the wild, adopters will be able to pick up a model in three additional coloring options, including vivid red, yellow and blue.

The exact availability of the products has still not been pin-pointed to an exact date in the calendar, so we’re left waiting for June to arrive, so that ASUS can start offering the new models.

The Chromebooks will arrive with retail prices starting at $250 / €182.
