ASUS announced on Wednesday that its new M50Vm-A1WM notebook featuring WiMAX is available effective immediately. WiMAX is the latest wireless broadband technology with enormous capabilities of delivering rich data experience and allows entire cities to drop the wire. While coming with a built-in WiMAX module, the new ASUS notebook enables users to enjoy online multimedia without interruption. This previously named “Echo Peak” module makes the Intel Centrino 2 M50Vm deliver HD content with high-fidelity audio anywhere and anytime.

“ASUS is excited to be shipping our first WiMAX embedded notebooks. As XOHM coverage expands in the US, ASUS plans to scale our product introductions to allow more customers to experience city-wide connectivity,” said Jackie Hsu, ASUS President of North America Sales.

“4G WiMAX has the potential to unwire broadband wireless networks across entire cities, one network for the home, office and while driving around town,” said Sean Maloney, executive vice president and chief sales and marketing officer of Intel Corporation. “Intel is excited to see innovative Intel-based laptops from companies like ASUS that combine the performance and innovation of the PC with a network built for the mobile Internet.”

The new ASUS M50Vm-A1WM comes with a 15.4” WXGA+ (1440x900) Color Shine display. Under the hood, it features a 2.26GHz Intel Core 2 Duo Processor P8400, discrete graphics engine powered by NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GS with 1GB dedicated video memory, and a 250GB 5400 RPM SATA HDD. The machine is HDMI ready (Dolby Home Theater Certified) and has built-in Altac Lancing speakers. Windows Vista Business comes pre-installed on this mobile PC.

Besides M50Vm, ASUS also announced that it would launch two other WiMAX-enabled notebooks by the end of the year. The N50 and F8V will be showcased at the official XOHM WiMAX launch in Baltimore.

The MSRP for the ASUS M50Vm-A1WM has been set at $1,399. The company offers a standard two year warranty for this product. The Notebook is already available for purchase on Amazon and NewEgg. More information on the new machine can be found on the manufacturer's web site.
