The space telescope will be publicly available and controllable

Planetary Resources, the self-proclaimed asteroid hunting company, has managed to get the required Kickstarter funding to put a space telescope into orbit.

It won't be the biggest or the most advanced, but what makes this ARKYD telescope unique is the fact that its mission will be determined by the people.

Anyone who pledged to the Kickstarter will get a say in the telescope's mission. Those who pledged above a certain amount will get a space selfie, a photo of you with space or Earth in the background.

Backers will be able to upload a photo of their choosing and then have it displayed on the satellite.

There's a serious side as well, as the satellite will be available to educational facilities for all sorts of research and researchers that may not have had access to a space telescope otherwise.

The Kickstarter project's goal was $1 million. Now that it's been reached, the satellite will be built. However, Planetary Resources is promising even more if a stretch goal of $2 million is reached. It’s promising that it will turn the telescope into an exoplanet hunter.
