Aopen, a company that focuses on optical disc drive manufacture, announced today the official launch of a new optical drive that reaches speeds up to 20x while offering support for several of the most popular disc formats that are in use now. Coming as an internal DVD RW drive, the new Aopen product is also featuring the fast data transferring interface Serial ATA, which is designed to replace the more cumbersome and slower ATA interface.

The Aopen DSW2012SA optical drive comes as an exponent of the ''All You Can Write'' concept and thanks to its maximum superior speed and multi format compatibility, it is able to write and read data from the following discs: DVD?R/R DL/RW, DVD-RAM and D-R/RW. The new AOpen drive is one of the few drives on the market today that offer a complete solution compatible with all DVD and CD standards. Another good point for the Aopen drive is that it is among the first optical disc drives in the whole industry to use the speedy Serial ATA interface which allows it to reach a much higher data transfer rate between the drive and the motherboard, far above the level provided by the Ultra DMA 5 interface.

When writing to a DVD ''write once, read many'' optical disc, the AOpen DSW2012SA drive is one of the few units that can reach speeds up to 20x and when writing to a DVD-RAM medium speeds up to 12x are possible. On Dual Layer DVD discs, the AOpen drive can write up to 8.5GB of data at a maximum speed of 8x. The highest writing speeds are reached when writing CDs, as the drive is capable of reaching 48x for the CD-R format and 32x for the CD-RW format. The Aopen DSW2012SA optical drive comes with an integrated 2MB of internal buffer memory and it offers fast and reliable data writing and reading capabilities, being perfect for both business and individual users. Along side the 2MB buffer, AOpen implemented a number of innovative technologies into its latest DVD burner drive, like the buffer under-run prevention system, adaptive writing speed adjustment, smart reading speed detection and an auto balance system which allows the drive to be positioned in both vertical and horizontal computer casings.

Among the other new features of the AOpen drive, there is a new sound barrier that makes the drive run and operate at very low levels of noise. The drive also comes with an extensive software bundle in order to allow users to easily burn their DVDs and CDs without the need to purchase additional applications. The Aopen DSW2012SA optical drive is certified to work with Microsoft Windows operating systems as well with all Linux distributions and the Solaris operating system.
