To increase its traffic

There are many strategies to increase revenues from online advertisement, and it seems AOL has decided to go for the free music and video download service.

The features exclusively available to AOL subscribers who pay a monthly fee of $23.9 are related to software and support: parental control, areas dedicated to teenagers and children, antiviruses and security solutions. Moreover, the support line for clients is available day in, day out.

AOL will offer shows like "The Biz", a reality show that depicts the road taken by young amateurs that want to be superstars and "Unscripted", a show with, for and about celebrities, where VIPs like Jamie Foxx or Tom Cruise are interviewing each other.

This policy change represents one of the most dramatic transformation in all AOL's history, allowing all users (not just the ones who pay) to have access to multimedia content.

Starting with June 12, AOL will broadcast news, music videos, concerts, online radios, trailer type video bits and TV reruns, all of this being available to anyone who visits AOL.com.

But this apparently generous maneuver has a very obvious purpose: to increase the number of visitors and consequently the interest of companies which invest enormous sums of money.
