New moves to make AOL more powerful on the market

AOL's CEO Randy Falco sent a letter to all the company's employees to inform them about the firm's latest plans which also includes a 20 percent slashing of the workforce. As far I can see, AOL plans to reduce the cost and to maximize the efficiency in order to reach all its goals which include the expansion in approximately 30 countries all over the world. It's a well-known fact that AOL started a powerful European expansion in order to make its solutions available for certain countries. That's why the residents of France or Italy are now able to visit their local AOL portal or even to access their regional version of AOL Mail.

According to AOL's CEO, there are no less than 10,000 AOL employees worldwide so a cut of 2,000 employees means there will remain only 8,000 persons in the countries where AOL evolved.

"The last important piece in this transition is the realignment of our costs against these three businesses so we can operate as efficiently and effectively as possible. This is in many ways the most difficult step, but a necessary one," Randy Falco mentioned in the letter sent to the employees. "As a part of this realignment, tomorrow we begin a reduction in force that will, over the next couple of months, affect a total of about 2,000 people out of our worldwide workforce of 10,000."

Certainly, the number of the AOL employees will quickly reach 10,000 again as the company continues to open new offices and buy new firms which are joining AOL together with their engineers.

"This realignment will allow us to increase investment in high-growth areas of the company-as an example, we added hundreds of people this year through acquisitions-while scaling back in areas with less growth potential or those that aren't core to our business, as we did with the sale of Tegic," the letter read.
