Should finally start selling in February, 2012, some time after CES

AOC has just sent out a press release in which it details an USB monitor which it hopes to send to stores at some point next month (February, 2012).

There is something rather strange about the announcement, or at least the product.

Simply put, this is not the first time that the company introduces it.

Then again, announcing a product multiple times has happened before.

That said, the item that is now getting its second unveiling is the e2251Fwu monitor.

People who were keeping track of the display industry back in June, 2011, might already know about it.

Measuring 22 inches in diagonal, it is uncommon through its reliance on the Universal Serial Bus interface instead of a regular video port (VGA, HDMI, DVI, DisplayPort).

The thickness is 10.6mm and the native resolution is 1,920 x 1,080, quite a feat knowing that the USB provides not just the video stream but the power as well.

That said, the LED-backlit panel has a response time of 5ms, a brightness of 250 cd/m2 and a dynamic contrast ratio of 20,000,000:1.

“The 22-inch USB Monitor makes multi-screen computing more practical than ever with its plug-and-play setup, cord independence and low power consumption,” said Robert Velez, marketing manager of AOC.

Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Apple's MAC OSX Tiger / Leopard and Lion operating systems are fully supported by AOC's monitor.

Finally, the product has a removable stand, so that it may switch between the roles of standard monitor and digital photo frame/presentation display.

AOC hopes that the e2251Fwu will catch on with consumers and business users alike, particularly those who like to operate multi-monitor setups.

The price will be of $199 when sales begin, in February, 2012; the sum is the rough equivalent of 154 Euro.

As one may be able to guess, AOC will showcase it during this year's Consumer Electronics Show as well (CES 2012).
