According to the information posted by www.hkepc.com, the latest roadmap announced by Advanced Micro Devices last month indicates that the first processors to be built for the AMD2 Socket will be available starting this quarter.

The roadmap tells us that Athlon 64 X2 and Athlon 64 FX charged with the new Windsor core are set to be launched by the end of March. These two new solutions are engraved using the 90 nanometer technology, are compatible with the DDR2 memory and compatible with the Pacifica virtualization technology.

The same source indicates also that the first Athlon FX to include the new core will be the FX-62 (dual-core 2.8 GHz and double the Level2 cache memory). As for the Athlon 64 X2, it will be available as a X2 5000+ version, with 2.6 GHz and 2 x 512 kb of memory, while the second version will be the X2 5200+, running the same 2.6 GHz, but with double the cache memory.

The Athlon 64 and Sempron models are about to be compatible with the DDR2 memory for the first time and they will also "hook up" to new AMD2 sockets, while using "Orleans" and "Manilla" cores.

"Brisbane", which is the 65 nanometer version of the Windsor core, is scheduled to be launched next year and it will be included in the Athlon 64 FX and Athlon 64 X2 processors. The 65 nanometer version of the Sempron, which is based on the "Sparta" core, will be launched next summer.
