And Intel is drawing near

Last month, both AMD and Intel released dual-core processing solutions, but the resemblances between the two companies stop here. Intel is going after the desktop market, while AMD is focusing on the server market, the company even announcing the first shipment of processors for the server producers.

Renowned server companies, like Hewlett-Packard, have awaited the AMD dual-core solutions, considering that these solutions represent the most powerful chips on the market. After signing distribution contracts with HP, Sun, IBM and other server integrators, AMD has gained a significant advantage over Intel.

Single-thread applications cannot run any faster on a server which is added more single core processors, but by including dual-core solutions, multi-thread applications can assign tasks to several threads, so that they are simultaneously operated.

Although AMD is ahead on the server market, Intel doesn't seem concerned, the company relying on the Xeon processing solutions, which will be relaunched on the market sometimes this year. For now, Intel keeps distributing the dual-core processors for the desktop systems, one of the main clients being Dell. Aside from dual-core processors for desktops or the Xeon series, Intel is also working on other multi-core projects, about which we will find out details later.
