AMD and Transmeta announced that the two companies signed an agreement that will enable the development of a dedicated version of the well-known Efficeon microprocessor, which will support Microsoft's latest FlexGo technology soon to be introduced on the emerging markets, informs Hardware Zone.

It seems that AMD and Microsoft intend to "conquer" the virtual world, as the second leader in processor manufacturing has developed the Efficeon, part of the company's 50x15 strategy, which will make a great team with Microsoft's FlexGo technology. This is only the beginning of a "beautiful friendship" which will engage several other famous producers in order to take over 50% of Earth's population into "an Internet never-ending journey" that will generate, and that's the actual purpose, a considerable increase in both companies' revenues.

"The AMD Efficeon processor is the industry's first microprocessor designed specifically to support Microsoft FlexGo technology", said Billy Edwards, AMD chief innovation officer and senior vice president.

"The Efficeon processor will allow consumers in high-growth markets to obtain computers that are provided on a pre-paid basis using either tokens or pre-paid activation cards. This same business model was instrumental in establishing massive global penetration for cell phones and we believe we can adapt it specifically to achieve the goals of AMD's 50x15 Initiative."

According to recent studies, today's Internet traffic engages only 15 percent of the population, but, because of a complex strategy which will put together AMD Efficeon, OEM and other manufacturers, it is expected that the powerful processor, based on FlexGo technology, will serve everything, from computers and notebooks to mobiles and PDAs.

Transmeta has designed this new AMD Efficeon microprocessor in order to enhance the capabilities of the FlexGo technology which will enable all clients, the ones who have a subscription, to use the service and pay just after that.
