Sunnyvale, California-based AMD has announced today the launch of another FirePro product, coming to expand the company's product support for workstation users. In addition to the chip maker's new FirePro flagship card, it also introduced the new FirePro S400 Synchronization Module, providing professional users with support for framelock and genlock synchronization used in demanding broadcast, video editing, visualization, simulation and rich display applications. The solution comes in the form of a single card that sports a dedicated processor designed to provide support for simultaneous GPU synchronization.

“Until now, synchronization modules available in the market only supported two graphics cards at a time, synchronized with a limited range of video outputs and were powered by older and increasingly outdated technology,” said Janet Matsuda, senior director, AMD Professional Graphics. “Professionals need a module that can meet the high demands of current video and 3D applications with the flexibility to address new demands down the road, and the ATI FirePro S400 does just that at an affordable price.”

AMD appears to have a growing interest in the professional graphics segment, having rolled out a couple of interesting products in the last few months. The S400 Synchronization Module continues this path and has been designed to provide users with support for up to four graphics cards in a single workstation. The integrated, dedicated processor is also good for offering support for framelock and genlock synchronization. The card also boasts a Serial ATA power connector that can enable ATI FirePro graphics cards to support PAL, NTSC, TTL and SDI synchronization.

The solution is compatible with Microsoft's Windows XP, Windows Vista, Windows 7 and Linux and is compatible with almost any type of computer chassis, being capable of offering support for PCI or PCIe connectivity interface. The card is already available at an MSRP of US$799.
