According to the latest news on the web, the Sunnyvale-based chip manufacturer Advanced Micro Devices has announced once again that the actual release date of its next-generation Phenom II processors is set to be January 8th. The company also said that the long-awaited parts would become available on the same day.

“Products will be available at launch on January 8th” is what AMD is reported to have said. The chip maker's announcement is meant to clarify some rumors according to which the products will only become available in February next year, while in January, the company would only make a so called “paper launch”. Its Phenom II chips were also rumored, at a certain moment, to come earlier than expected, namely on 18th December this year.

On January 8th, as previously reported, the company plans to launch its first 45 nanometer quad-core Phenom II X4 CPUs, dubbed 940 and 920. The next-generation chips are based on the maker's new Deneb architecture and have been announced to sport core frequencies of 3GHz and 2.8GHz respectively.

The first two 45nm desktop parts launching in January will include 8MB cache, and are both compatible with the company's existing AM2+ chipsets, a feature meant to facilitate their adoption among users. Later on next year, the Sunnyvale firm will also release processors for its upcoming AM3 platform, which will also include support for DDR3.

The Deneb-core has been discussed a lot lately, mainly due to its impressive overclocking capabilities. An AMD demonstration broadcast on the web showed how easily the company's team was able to leverage the speed of the processor to as high as 6.3GHz, and similar news was previously spotted. When launched, the Phenom II X4 chips will face strong competition from Intel's Core i7 processors, yet they are expected to be able to gain some market share for the company.
