World's second largest vendor of computer processors, AMD, is expected to unveil its highly anticipated notebook platform, codenamed Tigris, during this year's Computex show. The Sunnyvale, California-based chip maker will target this next-generation platform at mainstream portable systems featuring screen sizes of 14 inches and above, according to a recent report. In addition, during the Computex 2009 show, which starts on June 2, AMD could also unveil some of its plans for next year, including an upcoming notebook platform.

According to a recent news-article on Digitimes, citing a Chinese-language Commercial Times report, AMD could soon unveil its new notebook platform, Tigris, which is designed to provide system builders with a 45nm dual-core Caspian CPU, the RS880M series of chipsets and a 55nm or 40nm M9X graphics processing unit. All of these components are targeted at the 14-inch and above notebook segments, according to the aforementioned report.

The company's upcoming Tigris will become available to system vendors worldwide, and it will be offered alongside the Yukon and Congo platforms. The difference between the three is that Tigris will be meant for higher-performance 14-inch and above notebooks, while the last two will be targeted at the 13-inch and below notebook segments.

In addition to the reports regarding the upcoming Tigris, Digitimes also points to the possibility of emerging details on AMD's upcoming 2010 platform, which might also surface during Computex 2009. The future notebook platform will be designed to provide support for 45nm quad-core Champlain processors and the SB8xxM series of chipsets. In addition, this upcoming platform will also enable support for USB 3.0 connectivity and a next-generation Manhattan-series GPU.

For the time being, these are the only details on AMD's next-generation Tigris platform, but more should be revealed prior to or during the Computex 2009 show.
